CitizenX ws closed due to lack of funds.

From May 2000 to March 2003, CitizenX.com was an experimental webcam community that focused on digital hugs and pixilated expressions of love.

During that time, 200,000 people walked through these digital doors and experienced the “Digital Intimacy” we tried to cultivate. We tried a whole mess of ways to keep ourselves funded. From an innovative system of Citizen “taxes” to auctioning me off to the highest bidder for a night. Eventually, funding was the part of the experiment that failed.

CitizenX housed HugNation, Globalgasm, Digital Grace, and countless impromptu gatherings. It was seen on MTV, the BBC and featured in the book “Design for Community.”
It was a place of personal growth and nurturing.
We had scandals and tragedy. We had birthday parties and marriages. We had sticky keyboards and tear-soaked shoulders. We had a family.

We learned about ourselves and about the potential of the Internet as a tool to connect with one another.

In CitizenX, the internet fulfilled its promise of connecting people world-wide on a profound emotional level. People who never spent time here probably won’t understand.
But we citizens know. MoooOOOOOOOOOooooo.

I am DEEPLY grateful to everyone who shared this vision with me.
I am a better person because of CitizenX. The world is better because of CitizenX.

We are stronger. We love ourselves more. We feel love deeper. And we have no choice but to take that with us into our futures.

The website citizenx.com may be closed. But it will never be dead. Together or alone, wherever we may go, lets remember what we shared…and gift everyone we meet with a little more compassion and a few extra ((hugs)).
